Clearwater Beach the host of annual AGM

Western Mass Pioneers representatives attended the annual Premier Developmental League meeting in Clearwater Beach, Florida. Teams get the opportunity to discuss the organizational announcement, scheduling, policy and procedure changes for the 2012 season.

“Sunny and 70 degrees everyday… you cannot beat that” stated Brandon Smith, Media Relations Manager of the Western Mass Pioneers. “In all seriousness, this was a great opportunity to see how the league is managed, to meet the directors of the teams in our league and network with existing franchises throughout the United States to share ideas and best practices,” stated Smith.

This year, the PDL Northeast Division added three new franchises, the Worcester Hydra, Boston Victory and CFC Azul (Connecticut Football Club) bringing the total to eight teams. “I was excited to see the expansion to eight teams this year,” stated Steve Scott, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “It was great talking to the new owners and giving useful tips on experiences and expectations of running a team,” commented Scott.

Along with discussing scheduling for the upcoming season, there is talk of a new qualification format for the Open Cup and playoffs. More details to follow once officially released from the USL.

The PDL is the top U23 men's league in North America, showcasing the future of soccer. The PDL provides elite collegiate players the chance to compete at a high level of competition. The best players in the PDL enter the MLS Draft, realizing their dreams of competing at soccer’s highest level.
